I carry my weight around the house, along with working 45-50 hours outside the home. I'm not afraid of housework. This week, though, my list of chores has increased.
You see, Mrs. Leslie was washing dishes Monday. As she was twisting a sponge inside a coffee mug, the mug broke. She got a nice gash on the base of her thumb that required five stitches. So, the wetter household duties are falling exclusively to me.
On an average day, I leave work around 1am. I frequently stop at the grocery on the way home. At home, I will do some laundry, or pay some bills, along with feeding the dogs. Then I get "me" time till I surrender to fatigue and head for bed. This week, the after work list has doubled, and "me" is taking a back seat. S'alright, I can take it.
I've been wearing a bra to work all week. Jessica Who wrote about starting a 30 day experiment, wearing a bra 24 hours a day. I can't get away with full time wearage, but I'm showing my support (ha!) to the cause, if only for a few days. It's not the most comfortable garment, but the knowledge that I'm wearing it compensates nicely.
Just over two weeks remaining till my first support group meeting since early December. I am ready. These months continue to be a struggle. The inability to be oneself for so long is something I wouldn't wish on anyone. Now I can count days instead of weeks, so that's a positive. The March meeting is going to be a potluck sendoff for Samantha and Keith. Miss Leslie Homemaker will have to decide what she wants to bring.

Sorry to hear about Mrs Leslie!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about leaving the office at 1am too... What with Jerica getting up at 2am to go to work, you leaving at 1am I have to ask what hours do you all work!
I arrive at 7:30ish and leave at 15:50ish. If I'm there at 16:30 either something is terribly wrong, or we are going for a drink after work and you have to wait for those who don't get in quite so early! :)

Ouch! Best wishes for a speedy healing to Mrs. L!
ReplyDeleteBra@work? That's impressive. Don't think I'd be able to get away with it.
So now we Brits know why you are awake to comment in our daytimes. Strictly nine to five for me, what a way to make a living.
Ouch. I prescribe pizza or take out Chinese. Fewer dishes that way.
ReplyDeleteIn times where it was difficult to dress fully, I always found a little underdressing satisfying. It appealed to my sense of sedition as well as the inner requirement to feed the pretty beast. Good for you!
Glad you have the meeting to look forward to. Be a good nurse in the meantime my dear.
xoxo - Petra
I leave the house at 7:00 AM and usually get home around 4:00, so I can't complain about that.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're taking good care of Mrs. L and she's lucky to have you around. I hope she appreciates everything that you do for your family.
Hang in there, the two weeks will go by quickly and then you get to enjoy your group meeting.
Sorry to hear about Mrs. L's hand. She must have really been attacking the dirt that mug! ;-) Here's hoping she heals up quickly and that any scarring in minimal. :-)
ReplyDeleteI never wore a bra to work, but I did used to wear women's cotton panties and women's cotton camisoles, in place of men's underwear. The profile of a cotton camisole differs from a man's athletic undershirt, in that it is scooped out much deeper in both he front and back, and the straps are much thinner. The camisoles also had a tiny little pink rose at the bottom of the scoop neck in front, and I had to be careful that my shirt never gaped open too far at the buttons. I was also constantly afraid the outline of the camisole would show through my shirts, especially my thinner shirts. One day while leaving a meeting, a guy patted me on the back while saying something to me, and I was sure he felt the scooped out outline of the camisole. He never said anything, but I got very paranoid, and never wore them to work again. I don't know what your work situation or risk of exposure is, but be careful. :-)
