Naked Gams Ahead!

Okay, so I've reached critical mass. Some of you already realized that, I think, so I might be the last to know. GD is threatening to capsize my little boat.

What I need is some information from my many sisters. I want to epilate. Melissa (a sweetheart) has recommended the Emjoi Emagine, a dual head monster in the $100 range. I'm sure it is a tool to be reckoned with (that's what she said!), but that's a lot of cabbage when I'm not sure I can endure it.

Does anyone else out there in blogworld have a favorite model that they'd recommend? Leave a comment, or send an email if you prefer. I'd like to order something in the next couple days. I think I can bear another weekend as a bear, but it ain't gonna be fun.

  1. I just use a Braun Silk-epil... But NO WAY would I use it on normal growth! I'd pass out in two seconds.

I shave first, then epilaste to catch any isolated ones the razor has missed.

  2. Because of Melissa's praise of the machines I slipped one like Chrissie's into the weekly shopping one day and have never looked back.

No balls means less hair so I tore straight in, you know it will hurt a bit so just try to accept it, if you flinch at every tug you will hate it, like the electrolysis I taught myself to accept a little pain and I was a real wimp where that was concerned before.

Would definitely shave then epilate the short stubble just as you will epilate the "soft" re-growth which will come but there will be less because it will be dormant re-growth, just keep on top of it from then on. Foolishly I did not take mine on holiday and got some stubble after I shaved! It is nothing like the new growth after a harvest, lesson learned!

I am just a beginner, Melissa is the mistress of this art, go chat. Good luck.

  3. I too have the Braun however starting today, I go for laser...

No lie, they offered 65% off. And since I am now on my own, which means no restrictions, I have decided to screw it, let them wonder why my legs are smooth 365 days a year.

I'll just say I have a hair OCD and that feels better to me if somebody asks...

The epilator hurts! Make no mistake. My two cents is you want kind of 1/8 inch bits left for it to grab, you almost want to use a beard trimmer to get it set up.

  4. I also use a Braun. They don't make mine anymore apparently. A feature to think about though... Most epilators seem very loud. You might want to consider something that works wet or dry, so that you can epilate in the shower to mask the noise if privacy is an issue.

Oh, and its going to hurt lots, as you've already heard many times. It does always get easier though. =)

  5. Being an epilating fool since I first used my wife's original Epilady (OUCH!) at age 18, I've tried them all. I recommend the Braun Silk Epil, keep the tweezers clean every few minutes with a dab of alcohol through the small cleaning brush, and it will last you a very long time while taking care of business.

  6. Braun Silk Epil for me to.
It is painful especially at first. Once you get it all done the first time, then just make sure you keep on top of the regrowth. It is about every 7 days for me.
Although I have pretty much had laser all over my body, I still use the epilator weekly just to keep on top of the hairs that were not destroyed.
I also use it on the underarms which is really painful! I would leave that a while if I was you !

  7. Every 7 days, Lisa? Lucky you! It's every couple of days for me, if I'm going to be showing my legs in public. But then again, I've always been on the hairy side as ciswomen go.

I use an old (VERY old, maybe 8-9 years?) Phillips Satin Ice epilator. It came with an attachment that's supposed to live in the fridge, and then numb the skin in front of the tweezers with the cold as you go. The attachment definitely made it less painful when I started out, but it got lost in a house move, and I find I don't really need it any more, anyway. After years of use, I can practically pull the hairs out with my fingers now, the follicles are so loose.

Just to return to the topic of your previous posts briefly, from what I've seen on TG spouse support sites, it's not so much that they can't bear the loss of [random male physical feature], it's what it symbolizes to the wife. Losing an indication of masculinity just brings it home to them that they (may be) losing the "man" in you. Reassurance that it's just a "small thing" may not be enough, as they're all too aware of the slippery slope.

For some women, the fact that the person they married is male is pretty important. For some, it's less important. This doesn't make one woman better, or less shallow, or more loving than another. In some relationships, the most loving act a wife can do is to admit to a mismatch between their own desires and the person their spouse really is. In others, love can make those initial desires less important.

Love can mean holding on, or love can mean letting go. In the end, the greatest love is doing what causes the least pain for each partner. I hope you and your wife discover the balance, before bitterness and mistrust sets in.

  8. Thinking about the hairiness I had forgotten just how much hairier I had become over time. If there had been an objection I could have mentioned that half a lifetime before she had fallen for a fairly hairless person, not the hairy beast I had become!

  9. @ Caroline

That is so true Caroline. When we are young, we don't have nearly the body hair we have, when we get older.

    @ Lisa

I have to agree with Sonora! Every couple of days for me too! Except on my legs, which I have been epilating for 20 years now. Like the regularly plucked areas of my eyebrows, they have virtually no hair now, but I can do my chest and arms, and in two or three days, I have new hairs emerging. Eventually I hope they will become like my legs and eyebrows, but it may take a few years.

  10. Wow, great comments! Sounds like Braun is an all-around favorite. It just looks so small and fragile in the pics. Can it stand up to my androgen enriched leg hair? We may soon see. Thanx, y'all!

  11. Hi Melissa and Sonora, I guess the fact I had 8 laser sessions onmy body and arms / legs had a big effect.
If i give myself a once over on a weekly basis it seems fine. It is funny though that in the summer the hair grows quicker and now it is slowing right down again. I believe this has something to do with sunlight. A down side of good weather I guess. x
